Our sustainability goals

Tokmanni Group has four focus areas of sustainability to enable the ambition to be the leader in sustainability, in Northern Europe’s variety discount retail segment:

  1. Business Integrity: goal to be a trusted partner
  2. People: goal is to be the brand for everybody
  3. Products and Sourcing: goal to have sustainability and quality assured, and traceable products
  4. Climate: goal to be aligned with the Paris Agreement.

Tokmanni Group CEO Mika Rautiainen:
“In our strategy, sustainability is seen as a source of success. Our aim is to be the best place to work in the retail sector, to be even more sustainable variety discount retailer and to improve efficiency. We are happy to tell you more about the main themes of Tokmanni Group’s sustainability agenda on this website.”

Important cornerstones of the strategy and Nordic cooperation

The cornerstones of Tokmanni Group’s strategy are enhancing customer confidence and loyalty and improving cost-effectiveness. Key measures to achieve these are investments in the expansion of the assortment, low prices, easy shopping, an attractive customer experience, the expansion of the store network, personnel, sustainability and the efficiency of operations.

The Sustainability and Quality teams of our Finnish Tokmanni and Swedish Dollarstore, which are part of the Tokmanni Group, work together at Group-level. This means that sustainability and quality-related functions are managed across the entire Group according to common principles and targets. By combining the expertise of our teams, we can streamline our operations, ensure common practices in all our operating countries, and utilize our teams’ know-how in the best possible way.

Once again of the world’s best companies in sustainable growth

In late 2025, Tokmanni was once again determined as one of the world’s 500 best companies in sustainable growth. In this ranking, Tokmanni was the only Finnish company in the retail sector and one of only four Finnish companies – and of these companies, in 2nd place!

The well-known international TIME magazine’s and Statista’s World’s Best Companies in Sustainable Growth 2026 list emphasizes growth, environmental responsibility, and public reporting and monitoring.

But why is Tokmanni among the world’s 500 best companies in sustainable growth?

We were on the list because we have been reporting on our sustainability work for a long time and have worked consistently to achieve concrete emission reductions in line with our SBTi targets, for example.

For example, in 2024, we achieved the Scope 1 and 2 SBTi emission reduction target set in 2020 for our Tokmanni segment. We achieved this thanks to a variety of energy efficiency actions, such as purchasing carbon-free energy, increasing our network of solar power plants, and renewing and optimizing our building automation.

Due to businesses acquired in 2023, Tokmanni Group is in a transition phase in the integration of Dollarstore and Big Dollar as well as Click Shoes and Shoe House operations into its sustainability target setting and reporting. Tokmanni Group consists of Tokmanni and Dollarstore segments. Tokmanni segment operates in Finland and consists of Tokmanni stores,  Click Shoes stores and Shoe House stores, as well as Tokmanni and Click Shoes online stores. When referring to Shoe House and Click Shoes store chains, name Shoe House is used to cover both shoe store chains, unless otherwise stated. Dollarstore segment operates in Sweden and Denmark and consists of Dollarstore and Big Dollar stores.
