We improve resource efficiency and focus on reducing waste in all our operations. We develop our product offering and packaging to use more recycled and renewable materials and to enable reuse and recycling. Through responsible sourcing and collaboration with suppliers, we aim to minimise environmental impacts across the value chain. 

Further, the retail sector is impacted by many regulations, and the Group is preparing further steps towards even more efficient materials and waste management. The increasing regulation sets expanding requirements for data collection, reporting, sourcing operations, and for sold products and their packaging. Preparing and completing new regulatory requirements has been and will be a central focus to manage impacts on resource inflows in the coming years. 

Most waste is reused or recycled

We monitor the amounts of waste carefully. Tokmanni Group acts according to waste hierarchy and always aims to reduce, reuse, and recycle waste first, and only after that, the leftover waste is sent to an incinerator plant. For example, the Group recycled or reused 79.7% of our waste in 2025. 

Most of our waste comes from packaging the products. We strive to, for example, reduce the amount of packaging materials, especially plastic, monitor the amounts of waste being produced in our warehouses and at our stores, and continuously improve recycling.  

Tokmanni Group fulfils its statutory Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) obligations by annually reporting data on packaging, single‑use plastic products, fishing gear containing plastic, waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE), and batteries and accumulators to the respective EPR organisations operating in Finland, Sweden and Denmark. In this work, we work together with several producer collectives and organisations, such as SELT Association, Stena Recycling Oy, Recser Ltd, Akkukierrätys Pb Oy, Rinki Oy, Näringslivets Producentansvar, Naturvårdsverket, Recipo and VANA.
